The State House Restaurant

Most of my web builds live in the clean, intuitive world of Squarespace — it's my go-to platform for a reason. But every so often, a project comes along that asks for something a little different. In the case of The State Restaurant, the client specifically wanted WordPress, and I was more than happy to make the leap.

The restaurant, located in the historic Bonnier Building in Columbus, Ohio, is still under construction, with no photography, no pre-written content, and no finalized menu yet. What I did have was a great concept, a trusting client, and a blank slate — which is exactly how I like it.

I handled everything from layout and structure to content writing, SEO prep, and styling — bringing the whole site to life from scratch. The visual direction plays off the name, The State, with nods to both Ohio pride and classic modern American elegance. While the current live version keeps things simple for now, behind the scenes are ready-to-launch reservation and menu pages, waiting in the wings for when the kitchen opens.

It was a reminder (to both myself and prospective clients) that while I love working in Squarespace, I'm not limited to any single platform. WordPress, Webflow, Shopify — if it's a site, I can build it.

And more importantly: I can build it well.
