A More Distinctive Digital Home for a Downtown Columbus Restaurant

The State House Restaurant needed more than a visual refresh. The existing website was sparse, dated, and didn’t fully communicate the restaurant’s connection to Ohio, its downtown Columbus location, or the experience it wanted to create for guests.

The goal was to build a site that felt warmer, more confident, and more distinctive while giving the restaurant a stronger foundation for launch, search visibility, reservations, private events, hiring, and future growth.

The Approach

I rebuilt the site around a clearer sense of place.

The new direction leans into The State House’s Ohio identity through warm natural colours, seasonal food imagery, refined typography, and messaging centred on local ingredients, community, hospitality, and its home inside the historic Bonnier Building.

Rather than treating the website as a simple restaurant brochure, the new structure gives each important part of the business room to breathe.

The site now includes dedicated sections for the restaurant story, team, menus, events and private dining, location information, careers, community engagement, and contact inquiries, with a much clearer path toward reservations as the restaurant opens.

The Result

The finished site feels much closer to the restaurant itself: warm, polished, local, and unmistakably connected to Columbus.

It also gives The State House a far stronger digital foundation. Instead of relying on a minimal web presence, the restaurant now has a site capable of supporting discovery, reservations, events, hiring, community outreach, and ongoing marketing as the business grows.
